Progress at Gewerbestrasse 15 in Thun – May 2025

In May 2025, construction work continued on schedule with steady progress in several key areas. Here’s an overview of the most important developments
Shear Walls (Earthquake Protection)
The installation of the shear walls is currently progressing from the lower floors upward.
These shear walls are critical structural elements designed to stabilize the building. Positioned at strategic points, they absorb and transfer horizontal forces—such as those caused by seismic activity—safely down into the foundation.
By doing so, they increase the overall stability of the building and ensure compliance with current earthquake safety regulations.
Demolition Work
Demolition activities have begun in the basement levels, while the upper floors are being systematically deconstructed, starting from the top down:
Attic level
4th floor
3rd floor
2nd floor
This step-by-step approach ensures a safe and controlled dismantling process while allowing other construction tasks to continue smoothly in parallel.
Fire Wall on the North Side
Work has also commenced on the construction of the fire wall along the building’s north side.
Fire walls are highly fire-resistant partitions that prevent flames from spreading within the building or to adjacent structures. They are a key component of the overall fire protection concept, ensuring that escape and rescue routes remain safe and that any potential damage can be contained to specific areas.
Looking Ahead
All work remains on schedule.
In the coming weeks, the focus will be on:
Continuing the systematic demolition of the existing structure,
Gradually building up the new structural elements,
And advancing the fire safety components step by step.
With each phase, the project is steadily moving closer to transforming into a modern, safe, and future-ready building at Gewerbestrasse 15.
